Elly Steffen was appointed as Administrator of the Continuing Care Hospital at St. Luke’s in December 2008. Mrs. Steffen was previously the Chief Operating Officer at Waverly Health Center in Waverly, Iowa. She also held the position of Director of Program Development at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa. Her undergraduate degree in Biology was earned at Wartburg College in Waverly. Elly earned Masters Degrees in both Hospital and Health Administration and Public Health Policy and Planning from the University of Iowa.

Dr. Donald Paynter is board certified in Internal Medicine, Critical Care and Pulmonary Diseases. Dr. Paynter received his medical degree from the University of Iowa Medical School in Iowa City, Iowa. His residency in Internal Medicine was done at Wright State University School of Medicine in Dayton, Ohio. Dr. Paynter’s fellowship in Pulmonary Diseases was completed at the University of Arkansas School of Medicine in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Patients at Continuing Care Hospital at St. Luke's require extended acute care hospitalization with specialty programs focusing on ventilator dependency, wound care, and rehabilitation. Services provided by Continuing Care Hospital at St. Luke's include, but are not limited to, the following: 24-hour nursing care, acute and post-ICU medical care, ventilator care and weaning with 24-hour respiratory care, wound care, comprehensive inpatient physical, occupational, and speech rehabilitation, cardiac monitoring, IV therapy, blood transfusions, dialysis, therapeutic nutritional support, pain management, case management, social work services, patient and family education.
